An electronic signature can be used just like a handwritten one. It also provides a higher level of security than paper signatures, because the signer undergoes strong authentication every time, and the technical details of the signing event are stored.

No party can be forced to accept an electronic signature, the same way they cannot be forced to accept a particular method to carry out a legal transaction.
